I took my formal pants to the streets to test out the ridiculous theory that work pants don’t look cool on the streets, like eerrr who came up with that?
Here’s a thing, all my friends are in the 9-5 space and most of them come to me for help in the wardrobe department. Its either they don’t know how to look stylish for the office with what they call “office wear” and still look stylish for social events. Which always leads them to having more formal clothes than social because let’s face it, they love their social life, Sshh.
Or it’s that formal wear is kind of all the same so there will be 5 people in your office who bought the same dress from the same shop, and that’s just not cool. So the question I get a lot is HOW DO I WEAR FORMAL PANTS without looking like I am going to an office.
So I took 3 of my top formal pants and accepted the challenge to style them. So I divided this article into 3 parts. Stay tuned for next episodes…
I know the struggle of being the corporate girl and having to divide your wardrobe into 2 – the social outfits and the work outfits. Nobody wants that admin. There’s an easy solution. It starts with your choice when buying your work clothes.
TIP: Always buy something that compliments what’s already in your wardrobe. In my case I love everything high waist, you can wear it many ways – time saved!!!!
So the biggest misconception around formal clothes is that they can’t be worn outside of the office. Imagine your pencil skirt with an oversized tee and sneakers for a relaxed day at the park concert on a Saturday. Ok so part 1 is these grey high waist pants. Another gift from a loving friend.
These are the pants that I would wear to an office with a grey shirt or top and black kitten heels.
They have that serious feel so I thought I’d dress them up with a black net bodysuit for a daring look. I chose the shirt as a throw over because it compliments my bag. I felt a little daring and went braless inspired by Kendall Jenner, and serve some rebellious attitude. But if you’re not that brave it’s okay Girl.
This would be an outfit for a night out, winter is approaching so a coat would be perfect just to throw over the shoulder. Some accessories will bring this outfit to life. The shoes play a big role so I chose one that makes a statement. A waist bag aka fanny pack is perfect because its hands free so I got both my hands to do the meet, greet and mingle all night plus it’s such a big fashion trend right now. And viola… your formal pants making a fashion statement. I like the colour of the bag to break the black. You can wear a hat e.g. beret with this outfit to accessories.
